Just to add, one way would be to stay at two read levels - each Valid or other snippet which invokes a new screen could issue a Clear Read and return to its calling screen with a message "open that-and-that screen now". So we may have more than one screen open, but only two reads in effect.
I think we should nominate Rhea for something - she seems to be stuck with this 2.0 for months, and she doesn't give up. Just can't imagine a proper name for the category, but I'm pretty sure she deserves some reward.
