If by "slow" you mean "really slow," like 5 seconds or more, it's likely anti-virus. This will show especially on opening. It would happen on closing if you are using table buffering and have a lot of unsaved records.
That's assuming the tables are on the same machine as the app. If they are on another machine, and turning off anti-virus on the server and on the client (which holds the temp cursors associated with buffering), then you may be experiencing SMB issues.
