No, there were no error messages, it just didn't do anything.
I looked at the article you suggested and it appears that my only option is to modify the registry manually. I hate doing this but I will try it. I must say that it is a shortcoming in Office that the user interface lacks this capability, which forces me to modify the registry. Oh well, that's Microsoft for you.
