>So I know servicing has ceased for Foxpro and as well selling of licensing and all that. What I would like to know is realistically how long should I expect to be able to hold out with my applications working on workstations? i.e. they work on Windows 10. Eventually hardware will change and the OS will change to not allow a VFP application to run on a windows workstation. I know this is a guess, but as an educated guess, what would you all say? How many years would we have left before we are forced out of it?

One question to consider - what are chances your company/organization will be acquired by another company?

I know of an organization whose development plans were completely changed because of an acquisition that rendered their Fox (and other apps) obsolete. The mandate was simple: these apps must be rebuilt using the development tools of the parent company.

Obviously, I have no clue if your company might be looking at that scenario. But regardless, if I were in an IT manager in the United States and I had Fox apps in my stable, I'd "likely" be looking at a re-platform.

Another question - how many Fox developers do you have, supporting your Fox apps?

Before anyone jumps on me - I realize that 5 years from now, there will still be Fox apps out there, trucking along nicely. Just like certain industries are nearly recession-proof, certain environments are "new-platform" proof, It's important to identify what doesn't make an organization "new-platform proof"
