>So I know servicing has ceased for Foxpro and as well selling of licensing and all that. What I would like to know is realistically how long should I expect to be able to hold out with my applications working on workstations? i.e. they work on Windows 10. Eventually hardware will change and the OS will change to not allow a VFP application to run on a windows workstation. I know this is a guess, but as an educated guess, what would you all say? How many years would we have left before we are forced out of it?

The three replies you got from Kevin, Al and John provide lots of information.

In overall, it's been over two decades some said the product would go. While some of that it's true, there are still numerous VFP apps out there.

Having said that, the fact is that VFP is no longer supported. So, unless companies who run those applications would simply leave it as is until the companies go away, there will be, at one point or another, a decision to make to migrate the application to new technologies. What is now known as legacy app, can have a new life if migrated to actual trends. Also, at any time, if there is someone in the administration hierarchy which arrives, with the ideas that it has to go, it will. So, it is always better to be prepared.

I have migrated a few and, once done, I was able to say it's been good. It's like an old car. We can fine tune it so it would live forever. But, after a while, comes a decision to get something new.

IAC, if you can or have the situation that management could invest to migrate the application, that would be good to do. Otherwise, for as long as it lives, there will always be someone around trying to put it down. Most of the people fear the unknown. VFP has been seen like that for decades. People knew it was very good, excellent! But, too many just didn't want to acknowledge it. You can have the best technology or infrastructure around. If people don't embrace it, it will just go away.

For your question, I would suggest to be pro-active. Thus, as soon as you can, migrate.
