" Eventually hardware will change and the OS will change to not allow a VFP application to run on a windows workstation. "
is a fear born with win8/rt. MS completely changed it's plans and is going a totally opposite way, taking care to support
and bridge old/new tech instead of deprecating it - The smart move to grow without losing current market share.
Even windows cloud ( hacked ) can run win32 apps. Right now, Win10 store apps just put restrictions on what you can do with the registry, folders you can use etc.
( sandboxed apps, no install, no access to shared resources ). We don't develop drivers, games or virus, so there's not much to worry about.
The future is on containers. Containers will provide any configuration/environment you need, just like a vm. You'll ship your app with container config and it will run sandboxed from the host SO - in fact, windows 10 already has docker support!
