>>They [white voters] certainly did [mobilize against Obama.]

Where are you seeing that? My understanding is that Obama *increased* the Democrat share of the white vote.

The only analysis I recall, is that white approval for Obama was lower in counties with higher black populations. Make of that what you will.

IMHO people need to stop sifting electorate tea leaves looking for rationalizations when the reason for the loss rests very close to home.

Interestingly, in "The Prince" Machiavelli discusses taking loyalists for granted vs granting favors to those whose support you seek. Clinton lavished attention on her loyalist echo chamber while Trump engaged positively with communities that have not voted Republican in a generation but ended up giving him the win. QED. You'd think Podesta would have all the Machiavelli stuff down pat, but HRC's get-out-and-impress-the-punters campaign was an amateur screw-up. Towards the end I'm told she even had to cancel rallies when hardly anybody turned up.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
