The directory changes but you only see the change once you select the other drive, as Dragan showed you.

From C:\whatever you can do

CD D:\SomeFolder\Or\Another

You still get the C:\Whatever prompt, but if you type

D:

You'll see D:\SomeFolder\Or\Another
