Check out fuel taxes in Europe. You've a way to go yet. ;-) Though with improved technology, I would not be surprised to see more cars converted to use natural gas in the US with prices so cheap.
Followed by full-time electric once somebody can solve the battery capacity/cost dilemma. Basically battery technology to match a tank of gas or to make solar competitive for 24/7 city use, doesn't exist yet.
