>We are having problems with FPW2.6 application on fast pentiums. We have loaded the divide by zero patch and made modifications to slow down the popup lists as suggested in the ABRI internet site. Both of these have helped but we are still getting weird errors and records went missing from a data file. Is Foxpro 2.6 basically unstable on fast machines ? What is the quickest way to upgrade to Visual Fox and how successful is this ? We are is great need of advice on this so all help will be greatly appreciated.
I highly recommend rewriting your applications in VFP and not converting them. I converted an application from FPD 2.6 to VFP 3 and although it worked, it created a mess. The screens are unnecessarily complicated and slow. Doing a conversion actually stretched out the learning curve (IE instead of becoming proficient in VFP in 3 to 6 months, it took almost 1 year). This is because with a converted application you still are really doing programming the old way and not the "visual" way. And if you application really is doing things the "old way" what was the point of converting it anyhow.
There are some papers are converting FP to VFP at msdn.microsoft.com/foxpro
My 2 cents (3 cents Canadian).
