I know that SQL Server forums in MSDN are very good. There are lots of talented MVPs visiting and helping in these forums such as Erland Sommarskog and Hilary Cotter. I learned a lot from their replies.

But I agree that MS tech support engineers are not always good. That particular case was a proof of that. I'm sure glad I was able to fix the problems with relatively low impact.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
