>>Ok you're correct. They do not PERFORM the mammograms - the do breast exams and refer patients to other facilities and I believe there is funding that goes along with that. This is something that wouldn't be avail though if it wasn't for Planed Parenthood.

They do fewer than 1% of US breast exams. Why do you suppose that 1% is so important?

As it happens, I agree with you- because there are poor areas where PP is the only provider. PP gives these people ACCESS to care, and Access is an attribute in which the US does badly compared to other nations. Why make it worse?

Of course critics insist that other providers would step into the breach- including providers who do the other 98% of breast exams and all of the mammograms- and don't even get me started on whether manual breast exams are useful in the first place. ;-)

>>One thing is that while many in the USA want to keep Planned Parenthood and it's funding - at the same time many Americans (I think it's like 60% but not sure) don't want tax payer dollars paying for abortions.

The Hyde Amendment already denies any federal funding for abortion except for rape, incest or mom's live in danger. These exceptions were modernized by Clinton and in a mostly unreported step, locked in permanently by Congress on 24 January 2017 (meaning the new Republican government) so what funds are being cut exactly?

The federal funds PP does receive are mostly via Medicaid for preventive care such as those breast and cervical screens as well as HIV and birth control. But we've agreed that numbers of breast and cervical screens are lowish and falling and if you try to interpret supplied figures, you could conclude that over 40% of PP's interaction headcounts are for Sexually Treated Disease screening and Treatment. ??!! Perhaps PP needs to re-declare itself as a family planing provider and be done with the pesky screening stuff that isn't working as a smokescreen anyway.

IMHO PP can help itself by losing the "lifesaving cancer screening" claims that are easily interpreted as smoke screens, and focus on other stats that do matter- such as the estimated $7 saved for every taxpayer $1 injected into Title X family planning programs. Even the meanest GOP misogynist can understand that equation. ;-)

>>but if the GOP had their way, there would be no Planned Parenthood, abortions would be outlawed, and only the rich would have any reasonable health care. Toss in a few nutjobs like Carly Fiorina saying untrue crazy things and a bunch of stupid and lazy American's believing such crap... one begins to believe there is no hope for us.

You just had to do it, didn't you. ;-)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
