Not sure about the first problem but some people here on the UT have had the Visual SourceSafe problem of the PM loading slowly when the VSS server resides on a Novell server. In fact one person reported this to MS and they confirmed the problem. One solution which helps somewhat is to use the Novell client instead of the Microsoft client for Novell networks. HTH
