>An excellent point, and I must admit that I feel the same way. I've always wondered how something like the windows notepad could be judged as either compliant or non-compliant, yet I've seen instances of similar applications being judged that way. I can't imagine why the logic for some of these devices would even care about the validity of a particular date. I can see why there might be some problems, for example something that controlled the level of activity based on the day of the week, like shutting down part of a bank of elevators, but c'mon that's an inconvenience at worst.<
IMHO, the problems will not arise from computers or computer-driven equipment going into the toilet. It will happen because so many of the Great Unwashed EXPECT it to happen. Mass hysteria; the public will hold its collective breath the night of 31 Dec '99, and at the first sign of even minor inconvenience will freak out.
Maybe that's just my own cynical outlook, but riots have started over less, and our media is doing an excellent job of calming everyone's fears, aren't they?
