If you try a TableUpdate on a non buffered table you will immediately know the answer, it doesn't work, it errors with a message to the effect that buffering is required for that command. Views are always buffered and you cannot turn buffering off for them, that will also error on you.

The reference to the valid rules in teh dbc is misplaced in the entry for TableUpdate other than to say that buffered tables will fire the valid rules before the tableupdate is issued (as you leave the control that is bound to the field and before the valid of that control fires).
