You said it better than I did :).

But then if you move the whole project to a different box, and the ocx is not in the same location, it will not break but use registration to find it, and then write the newfound location into the field. IOW, it's mostly irrelevant, it looks it's just FYI and possibly also served as a "look there first", sort of path caching.
