TypeScript takes you a long way towards writing type safe code - prevents most errors that would only surface at runtime and lets you use ES6 syntax even if you are targeting ES2015.

TBH I didn't look at migratory routes (which I believe exist) - just started to recreate the same functionality from scratch. Of course that means that the whole thing will have to be completed before any bits can be used in production.
At the moment it looks as if the only thing that will remain the same is the data repository and the backend database.....
