Off the top of my head I can think of some general schemes:

1. Copy protection - tie the installation to attributes of the computer on which it's installed

2. Phone home - when program starts, it phones home to a server you control. If the current run count is less than the configured maximum, the remote copy of your program is allowed to start

3. Remote desktop - the users never install your app on their computers. Instead, you run it on your server(s) and allow access via remote desktop. Through RD you can control how many users at each client can run your app
