Additionally, while I got away from my desk (it always helps to get away :), I realized that there is another column of this table that does not change and I can set the filter to that column. This way, I can set FILTER to that column and populate records without seeing them disappear. Actually I am not sure you can *see* something disappear :)

For such tasks I either add a couple of flag columns if there are a some100K of recs to take advantage of rushmore or a memo field with 1 line for each selection/filter to work on for smaller tables.
Set filter criteria once in advance, edit data and if all is done check again setting the filter to each criterion in memo file...
There is a good chance that you need to fiddle again or want to check up at end, esp. if under deadlines...
