The Telenor (a norwegian telco's subsidiary here) actually blocks the number, I can't use it unless I make a payment. And after a while I guess they'd sell the number to anyone. It doesn't matter how much money I have on the number, it's that I'm neglecting it and that number didn't bring them a dime in the last en months.

I wonder if american prepaid phones work the same. I have never had one.
