So it appears that the most obvious selection only turns it the suggested apps on the list portion of the Start menu -- and doesn't disable the suggested item on the panes to the right. It appears you need to edit the registry to turn it off, or use flip the same using group policy editor (available in Pro and Enterprise but not in Home).
