That certainly sounds like a plausible possibility.
It would also explain why after rebooting there's no problem compiling.

I tried compiling something and of course (wouldn't you know it)... it worked fine.
I'll try it again later and test out your theory.

Of course if your theory pans out, then the question is why is there a "phantom" exe hanging around?
