Concurring on working on the server for anything but task so tiny a DB program is not needed ;-)

TSClient not pesonally used, but hearsay from trusted source claims good overall handling/speed/ease of use, but later on having some problems in a few esoteric areas when testing full (very large/complicated) program - not insurmountable, but adding to programming cost.

If the Exe housed in the cloud is never needed to run on PCs on an in-house LAN as well **and** ASP.net web application is already served from there, FoxInCloud might also be an option, as a big part of server setup tasks already are in place (read done and paid for). Total cost of FIC (including minimal dev tweaks) probably minimally higher than TSC, but farther along if mobile devices need to be considered as clients.

Not knowing current prices I cannot comment on best bet - but safest bet for that small # of uses (working from a PC) vs risk of added dev cost is Remote Desktop into MS server.

>The short answer is that won't work. When you execute from the shared folder, the EXE actually executes on your machine, not on the server. That's for starters. It gets worse from there. All the cursors get pulled down to the local machine. Etc., etc.

>>>Hi Dmitry,

>>>How do you plan to have your clients access the application? How many clients? During a recent real-life DR we put TSClient on a !&1 box with 8GB, etc., and SQL Server. It looked like it might work for up to 10 clients -- we got out co-lo back up about 5 hours before switchover. Our test was with VMWare underneath (the new standard at 1&1). If you are using VFP tables, or perhaps if using PostGreSQL, you might get more clients on and still have sufficient performance. Having more than 3 clients per core (-1 for the OS) usually does not work out well, from our hosting experience. Our app is a very busy app, due to pretty near 4th Normal Form with a lot of tables, so the numbers I mention should be take as worst case.
