>> There is of course nuclear power too which can be advanced and made more safe.
It makes sense to have solar in Hawaii. In NZ, usually well over 80% of electricity generation is from renewable resources, mostly hydro, but lower rainfalls reduced it to 79.5% this year. The country is aiming for 90% by 2025.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable_electricity_in_New_ZealandI hope the electrification of transport is well advanced by 2025 so NZ can meet its Paris Accord commitments rather than facing huge payouts because apart from transport, the biggest source of emissions in NZ are the herds that produce goods exported to the world, on which NZ's economy remains fairly reliant.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
