I never paid much attention to his union positions but that may explain why my sister was never a big Regan supporter. She was president of what I believe was the largest local in the SF Bay area. But, her problems were mostly with the union itself. After she won the election for president running on a "the bosses get rich while the rank and file gets screwed" platform the union sued on the basis that so many votes were rejected because they were improperly filled out and a judge ordered a complete new election. She won the second election buy an even larger margin. She said the cause was that many union members that voted in first election had never actually voted in the union elections before and did not know how and the insiders didn't care because they always won. Once elected she refused to take her "salary" which she said approached an hour what most of the members made a day. The union sued again to make her take her "salary". The judge ordered her(from the transcript) "to accept the checks". She did but she didn't cash them. Back to court again where she presented the checks and a copy of the transcript to show that she had done exactly as the judge had ordered. The judge ordered her to cash the checks but by then a lot of the rules had been changed and the president's pay had been sharply reduced. During this whole time she receive numerous threats on her life and property. She was still a big union supporter but she didn't run for reelection.
