You know Victor, I think I was a bit blind here.

When I look back to 2012, Moore only just beat the little-known DNC Vance for Chief Judge. Only 2 points in it which is remarkable in Alabama.

Clearly Moore was a polarizing character then. And apparently the Vance campaign already knew to target white suburban conservative women who are more likely to be annoyed by Moore's pedantic principles and now allegations of sexual misconduct.

Jones said "I don’t have to win Shelby County or Blount County, I just have to narrow the gap and get people rethinking how they’re gonna vote."

Which is exactly what he achieved in those counties. Meanwhile Moore lost Tuscaloosa, Mobile and Huntsville that were instrumental in his win last time. Those 3 counties delivered more than 30K extra votes for Jones, enough to reverse the result had they voted for Moore again. I have great faith in those voters who did it for a reason.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
