Some see it as starting shot of a trade war, as they see it as custom dues by another name.

There seems to be a democratic modification attempt to allow taxes paid outside the states to be at least partially to be distracted from this BAT, in essence going hiking the prices of no/low tax imports more than those of high tax countries.

Unclear if BAT is in conflict with free trade agreements - probably is at least in the part where exports are exempt/subsidized.
Too unclear what is wanted by which lobby group seen from over here. But also some worries that US would be pt on the grey list of countries with taxation for corporations so low that punitive taxes to **some** US income for german corporation owners/mayor shareholders could apply..
