Find below a message I posted a while back when I had the same probem.

Hi all,

Just in case it might be of use to someone else, I solved my icon image
corruption (white showing on sides of icon) by converting it from the
default 16 colours to 256 colours.

The process was :

1) Take an icon from the Visual FoxPro gallery.

2) Load it into Icon Easel 98 and save it as a BMP.
This saves it as a 16-colour BMP.

3) Load the BMP into PAINT and save it as a 256-colours BMP.
