>Anyone know is there is a ready to use app for Android and iOS that you can basically connect to your cloud or local network data?
>I am wondering if there is a way to take my legacy VFP9 app and present just a handful of fields for lookup (names, address, phone, etc.)
>Basically, I am looking for a fairly easy plug and play app for this. I wouldn't require that the data be updated on the app, but it would be helpful is that was an option.
2 different problems touched:
a) data accessed over the web
b) vfp file structure
directly accessing the files over web is possible, but not really secure, even if you might find an app knowing about vfp header, index and memo structure. Writing this way might create problems.
creating a web front via the tools discussed last thread calling a REST or GraphQL endpoint is possible, but probably not your definition of out-of-the-box ;-)
Using some kind of web-based data-admin tool on your files accessesd via ODBC might work, but still high on the kludge scale
Options deemed more realistic:
Look into Lianja or Servoy to create mobile offering from vfp data fast (also not out-of-the-box)
or
set up a VM in your cloud, access via remote desktop from mobile via VPN (edit, browse vfp in cloud or access own existing app)
or
check if FoxInCloud plus your already existing vfp app screens are enough for your needs.
Only you and a handful of people: probably option 2 (RDS) ok, if you have at least tablet size,
if you have working vfp input screens used in dayly routine,
probably separating that functionality into a separate app+FoxInCloud bootstrapping screens more into mobile usage best option.
