I think the answer depends on what kind of income your software can generate for a "new" developer. I am kind of in a similar "boat" as you are (age wise). I have a vertical market application. The support money my application brings can generate between 50K and 100K for the next so many years (if I don't add new customer(s)). I figured that I would not be able to find a relatively young developer who is willing to learn VFP and work for this money (even though I enjoy big time the freedom to run my own business and work my hours). So, I plan to work as long as I have at least 40K in income. I am sure my customers won't have any problem to find a competitive product and convert my data (just as I have done for year with my competition).
Just my 5 cents.
