Hi all,

Customer asked me to encrypt some fields in their application - which uses VFP tables. And this is going well (thanks Rick Strahl for the utility classes!). I am having to write encryption/decryption routines in a bunch of places in their app for the dozen or so fields they want encrypted. Somewhat laborious to make it all work but it works.

Longer term, just wondering does SQL server have built in encryption mechanisms? i.e. can you designate certain fields or tables in a database to be encrypted such that it is a lot easier? and I guess that the SQL statements have to be encrypted back and forth to the server (unless that is already happening). Just thinking long term for this customer if they should consider eventually upsizing to SQL server.

Thanks,
Albert
