OK, the task is to populate versions of Word document formfields via VBA, using settings provided by the user, and then allow local editing. I suppose the initial formfield population could be done at a server, but tech decision was that Word on the server created reliability risks and it was better to do it locally so any SNAFU wouldn't consume server instances. I agree it's a PITA so if you know a better alternative, I'm all ears!
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
