That depends on the charity.
Some board members are also executives and many executives get high salaries.
From Business Insider, here are some Red Cross salaries:
Executive director Gail McGovern made $561,210
EVP for biomedical services James Hrouda made $621,779
Biomedical services president Shaun Gilmore made $573,933
I've done work with Catholic Charities.
The board members get no compensation for being on the board.
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
