If you wanted to use VFP, have you considered the venerable PHDBase? It does fuzzy indexing of free text, including expressions that could include filetostr(). No reason you can't put a trigger on folder changes to keep your phdbase index current, plus timestamps or sys(2017) to avoid pointless reindexing,
