> Depends on how you define clever. If you look at the web stack (we are using SQL Server, C#, JSON, JQUERY, JavaScript and HTML 5), you can hardly argue that this is clever. There are SAAS products out the like Windev, Lianja,, Servoy that do all of it in a much more clever way. But for some reason we choose for 'more control' and not being trapped in a 'vendor lock-in'.
FoxInCloud also claims to do web apps in a clever way:
- full AJAX/SPA
- almost no HTML/CSS/JS to write,
- any VFP dev can get a Web app without Web dev knowledge,
- share 100% source code between desktop app and Web app
- only standard code on client side: all your business code RUNS ON THE SERVER
- competes in response time with MVC-style Web apps (tech stack similar to the one you mention)
- outstanding productivity: you can deploy thousands of controls and events in a matter of weeks
- responsive: automated Bootstrap-aware HTML/CSS/JS code generated from the VFP layout, albeit responsive
- scalable: absolutely no memory footprint depending on user count: server is completely stateless
- customizable at global, class or object level: HTML override, CSS override, JS override -- in files and/or right in VFP code
