It depends on your market.
For small markets, price and simplicity matter.
I haven't tried later versions that claim to run on any platform, but earlier versions of ASP only ran on Windows.
LAMP, which powers PHP/MYSQL sites, is free.
Windows is not, so hosting costs are higher, and I had some serious performance issues with sites trying to run ASP apps.
For large markets, intangibles matter, so ASP is more appealing.
I work in the small markets, where the mantra is "I'll be happy to pay you with intangibles."
Anyone who does not go overboard- deserves to.
