I think the FFC has some value, but isn't worthy of use for turning out production work. The problem with them is there isn't much support for them. If you are planning on marketing a product built with them, you're going to have to write quite a bit of code to extend it. However, you can certainly use them to learn with.

My personal recommendation is Visual FoxExpress. I've used their product since FPW and FPD 2.6 and have nothing but good things to say about them. There are other frameworks that work well too, or so I'm told. I recommend spending the money on the third party framework, which you will recover on the first project.
