>>...freakin ridiculous. They will offer prayers and thoughts but in the end they won't do a damn thing. Oh and they will have these stupid roundtable discussions on how to deal with the shootings but they won't talk about guns or gun restrictions or universal background checks. Worthless dirtbag politicians who would rather take money for the NRA that do their damn job and protect children citizens and pass laws that everyone wants. Far as I'm concerned they can shove it where the sun don't shine.

After a school shooting in California, in 1989 George W Bush banned import of semi-auto rifles and began moves for an Assault Rifle ban. Presidents Ford, Carter and Reagan all wrote to the House supporting banning of assault rifles. Gallup polls suggested that over 75% of citizens supported such a ban. It still took until 1994- 5 years- for an Assault Weapon Ban to be passed with a 10-year sunset provision, meaning it expired in 2004. At that time analyses confirmed that any reduction in firearm violence from the ban was too small to be measured.

Another 14 years goes by and now assault rifles again are under examination, with people marching and blaming current politicians including current POTUS for not protecting them.

Perhaps people might ask what happened in the 14 years since the previous ban expired in 2004 which not even CNN can hope to pin on Trump, and why people believe another ban will make any difference if the previous one apparently made none?

Meanwhile in gun-banned Britain, London violent crime rises dramatically with murders exceeding New York's for the first time earlier this year. A surgeon in a top London hospital likens it to a war zone. When illegal guns are used it's usually handguns, same as in the US; but more usually they use knives.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
