>>My little guy was willing to compete fairly, but when faced with the economic power of the Chinese government he had to fold.

Similar to car batteries: other car manufacturers were priced out of existence by subsidized Chinese product and when none of note were left, the price creeps up to where it was- except manufacture now is all under Chinese control. Which is a clever game, if everybody else accepts the rules. The Chinese strategy Is to dangle enough dollars before greedy elites who think nothing of selling out blue collar collar workers or national security to enrich themselves. Which is why Trump is so dismaying : he's not playing that game and seems to care about local capability and workers, not special interests. Hence the harnessing of leftist useful idiots to attack Trump for all manner of trumped-up faults. But that's not working either.

In the case of steel, Trump declared it strategic for the US to maintain its manufacturing so as not to depend on foreign supply. When you look at the reaction not just from China but also from Europe and Canada, you realize how far down the river the US has been sold. A president who cares about national security rather than surpluses expected by other nations or profits for corporateas and privateers and special interests?! Unfair! Trade War! Racist! Sexist! Tearing kids away from mothers! On and on it goes.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
