How do I make sure that the images appear in the order that I want them to? I tried to open all images (from a folder on my drive) in the order in which I wish them to appear. But they are then scrambled and do not appear in the desired order.

A possible workaround if all else fails - you could create a temporary folder, copy in the images you want to view, and rename them (if necessary) so the default sort order (which I believe is alphabetical) gives you what you want.
You may have noticed that folders in File Explorer "remember" the last sort order. If for example you change the sort order to reversed date (latest at the top), go to another folder (where the sort order may still be the default alphabetical) then go back to the first folder, it's still in reverse date order. I haven't tested this but some apps such as Photo Viewer may respect this. By using a new temp folder you can be sure it will always display in the default alphabetical order.
