>>It appears that Attorney General Jeff Sessions declared a holy war on LGBT people, LGBT equality, and LGBT rights today at the “Religious Affairs Summit” with his new "religious Libery Task Force" ...what an ass.

Where were you when the Supreme Court declared a holy war on LGBGT people, allowing bakers to honor their own religious beliefs?

Was the Obama administration declaring holy war on the Little Sisters of the Poor when it sued them to force inclusion of contraception in their healthcare insurance?

What I see is inflamed "the sky is falling!" rhetoric about everything the Trump administration does, after fawning adulation for anything a previous administration did.

Not sure whether you knew that in recent weeks the infamous Laura Southern signaled her intention to visit New Zealand to give a seminar. Furore ensured. The "Auckland Peace Action" activists threatened violent interference. The Auckland Council withdrew permission to use a public facility with the Mayor denouncing these terrible speakers. It took 24 hours for a "Free Speech Coalition" comprising well-known liberal and conservative notables, to crowd fund $50K (they ended up with $80K) to challenge Council in court. Council then changed tack to blame the "hecklers veto" now renamed the "thug's veto" as health and safety grounds for declining permission. The session now proceeds at a confidential venue to minimize the potential for "Peace" activists to violently disrupt. The acting Prime Minister paraphrases Voltaire in defense of free speech. The consensus seems to be that kiwis are capable of recognizing extreme thought for themselves and won't turn into rabid haters just because a Canadian gives a speech to a few hundred fans- so we don't need to be protected by self-appointed nannies.

What do you make of all that? What I see, is that the worm has turned. Certain people have had everything their own way for a long time, relying on public inertia and violent reaction if they don't get their own way. But ordinary people are saying "enough" and rolling their eyes at the insistence that only one sort of dogma is a sumptuously robed emperor and everything else is hateful. We're told that the vast majority of that raised $80K was donations of less than $300.meaning it was ordinary people, not rich conservatives funding the legal challenge. Few of those people have any intention of listening to Southern but nor do they want points of view being controlled by self-appointed censors and their spiteful labels. It's the inability to engage with that distinction that causes much of the head exploding IMHO.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
