I coded my stepwise approach when vfp6 was latest and greatest - back then my approach was the only one working without flaws (had already run the normal maintainers of that part of the app into a wall, so they off-loaded the question to me) - but I did not retest the more elegant but failing approaches like Marcos the hint under later vfp releases. Might be interesting to know if MS cleaned up such warts in later releases ;-)
