I have not contacted Chen previously. I have only seen his screenshots and samples where he shows how he was able to fix VFP's internal code. It shows disassembly, information relating to a decompilation.
I also know from personal experience and abilities, there's no way to diagnose or patch a binary executable without some kind of disassembly / decompilation / examination through a debugger capable of showing you disassembled binary code, etc.
I want all of us to know for sure one way or the other what Microsoft's position is so nobody is operating under the possibility of action. If Microsoft comes back and says it's no big deal, which I suspect they will, then the matter is settled for all time. If not, then everyone will know the risks they are taking with certainty.
