>>>What I don't like is that 2% should be about $40 not $4 and not only that but I have to pay 25% of 85% of the $4 in taxes so my net is $3.15. I'm not sure you could buy very many flowers or even 1 beer in HNL for $3,15.

It depends upon which state you're in - and sometimes even the city. In most states the stores will not sell you just a single 12oz can of beer - you have to get at least a whole 6pack. Now if you really just want a single beer - the other option is to buy one of the 40oz bottles lol lol - which to me not really buying a beer, it's more like getting 3 beers that happen to be in one bottle lol. On top of that most will not let you do a mix of beers either -- so say you want 6 beers, but 3 different kinds of beer -- so you just get two of each, and now that is a six pack right? Nope they won't let you do that either. Hawaii is more understanding I guess and they let you do all this. The other thing I was expecting if that if you bought just one beer, then the cost would be higher (more than cost of 1/6 of a sixpack) -- but from what I see that is how they calculate the price. We keep 3 or 4 different types of beer in the house here and this way we don't have to buy a 6 pack of each and then store 24 dang cans of beer in our fridge :) ... plus if we did that around here the beers would probably go stale before they were all drank lol lol.
The other thing in the USA is that you can't go to a bar and get any beer to go - they won't do that at all even if you are trying to buy a 6 pack. Sure that makes sense if it is an open beer - but an unopened bottle or can? nope if you buy it there you have to drink it there. Perhaps there are some places where that is actually allowed - but I've never seen nor heard of one.
I did see a drive-thru liquor store before on the mainland --hahahaha -- which seems wrong on sooo many levels hahaha
