Am I missing something or this is not supported on Mac? Do you think it is worth to give a try at my off time? Also I wonder if it has support for NoSQL databases or just the ones that have ODBC or OLEDB drivers?

Cetin,

I dont think WinDev IDE runs on Mac. I think the IDE is Windows based only. It can however build different types of projects such as:

Windows or Linux executable in desktop mode
Windows or Linux service
Windows 10 app
Java archive for Mac, Linux, Windows...
SOAP or REST web-service
.Net Assembly

... and some others. I attach a screen shot of the "create new project" dialog.

WinDev Mobile can create apps for Android and iPhone.

WebDev creates websites/apps for browser based solutions.

WiNDev etc can connect to various databases either by 1) "native access" which is built into WinDev or 2) using ODBC, OLE DB. Native access is provided for : HFSQL, AS/400 & IBM i, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, MySQL, Informix, PostgreSQL, Progress, Sybase, xBase, SQLite, Access. For more info see these links:

Apparently you can even use code from other languages inside a WinDev app. Not sure how it works and have not tried it but the big picture PDF above mentions various other languages under "existing code".

Regarding Quick Start - you can download the WinDev Express version and it has a quick start guide/tutorial. I have not used it myself as it came available only after we were already using WinDev. No idea if it is good or not but definitely going through the tutorial is a recommended step.

In respect your question re using the IDE - I think you have to use WinDev IDE because it manages the entire project like VFP up to and including building the EXE and even the setup package if you want it to. I dont use the setup package as we prefer InstallShield. But it seems OK and even has built-in patch updates as part of the entire system so clients can be upgraded automatically if you want that.
