Once I was sufficiently bored to look for a language to learn (yup, that bored), and started looking at Python syntax. And I was amazed at its string chopping techniques - with using lcVar(4) to mean subs(lcVar, 4, 1), and lcVar(a to b) to chop it from ath to bth character (or, if one of them is omitted, from that end or to that end) - which is exactly the syntax I loved in... ZX Spectrum Basic back in 1983 :).
