This kind of thing happens when you use a combo in a grid and the controlsource is not the field you are displaying. To fix this problem, set the InputMask property to be able to accomodate the display field. For example, if resources.name is char(40), set InputMask to:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This should solve your problem.
