In fact our situation is a bit unusal. We never get into mass deployment. Our solutions are installed on very few machines. Only a handful of them, located at headoffice premises, in support of HQ positions.

Our recent deployment experience with Boxedapp application is the following: 95% of the install can be run by the users themselves. These are very heavy corporations where getting the IT to provide service can become a daunting experience (time and support experience).

From this standpoint the green-virtualized-software has been a nice experience. Of course there are cases where this setup will not work. Either AV software or admin practices will prevent this kind of deployment. And in this case we will rely on IT to provide the setup. But, in most headoffice environments, we rarely bump into such situations. Even in 2019.

By the way, it may have happen that Boxedapp applications are getting fewer AV signaling than in the past. AV are supposed to be smart learning-driven pieces of software. And some of them clearly are:-)
