>>the only reason not to release his taxes is because there is something to hide. If there was not -- he would release them.

I'm not sure I'd want my tax returns released. I can't say for sure why he decided not to release his and IMHO it's wrong to come up with worst interpretations and then get all worked up about them.

>>They're working on a law right now that will fix this problem -- all presidents will have to release their tax info.

Fair enough. How do you think the likes of Trump (or more accurately his accountants) would respond to that?

>>Was not a problem until Trump because everyone else did so.

I think Trump is very different from predecessors in numerous respects apart from his wide-ranging businesses.

>>In any event -- getting a hold of his taxes is called oversight (especially in this case) -- which is their job.

Congress is also forbidden by law from examining or making public the private tax returns of US citizens for political purposes.

Were I Trump, I'd go all the way to the SCOTUS evidencing that Schiff is a leaker who cannot be relied upon to protect Trump's privacy, and that Congress can exercise its full oversight obligations via the IRS and standard civil service reporting provisions with which Trump has cooperated fully.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
