>But setting up JS tool chains probably saps a lot from the joy of minimal coding as well: turns the speedboat into a refitted fishing trawler.

Man you aren't kidding. I've actually taken a break from doing front end work because of that. I've retreated back to using more server side code and using Vue for progressive enhancement. For productivity that often gives me the biggest bang for my time.

>I noticed Vue middle 2016, used 1.x as 2.0 was not released, but already "around the corner". One of the very few offerings in software getting better and fighting bloat. Fully understand the stellar rise in interest compared to other fwk interest: Angular and React seem stagnant as Vue grows faster, having overtaken Angular in interest.

To my chagrin I think React is still the big winner these days. Lots happening with React and support framework, but the React model has always rubbed me the wrong way - that just feels so incredibly backwards to me and looking at large React code bases makes my head hurt.

Vue offers a nice 'keep it simple' approach with lots of options. You can work using Reactive style, or you can do the more traditional MVV* type binding which to me feels a lot more natural and productive. I have nothing bad to say about Vue. I've been using Angular for bigger client side projects but Vue has really won me over with its simpliicty.
